What is GEX?
Global Exchange (GEX) Services provide secure messaging, mediation, and routing services along with system monitoring, data audit trails, and performance scalability ensuring the system reliably performs for each of the communities of interest. The system is designed so that messaging, mediation, and routing services are independently applied as needed to support individual business process data flows. New data integrations and technical enhancements are plugged into the architecture as needed to support emerging customer mediation and messaging requirements. The architecture incorporates a combination of open source, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products, and government off-the-shelf (GOTS) products that securely handles the internal and external messaging, routing, and data transformation requirements across the Department of Defense (DoD) enterprise. Flexible, standards-based workflow is included for complex business processes that require multiple execution steps or aggregation/distribution of data between multiple sources and destinations.

Data Translation Maps
The only way to deploy customized maps on the GEX infrastructure is via Defense Automatic Addressing System (DAAS) approved developers. The most common way to obtain customized maps is via the GEX Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract vehicle.
Programs utilizing the GEX infrastructure to support their mission should
utilize the GEX map deployment schedule to plan for requirements.
Emergency bug fixes for existing production maps must be coordinated with the GEX
Program Manager for production deployment outside of the scheduled map deployments.
For new capabilities, out-of-cycle map deployments will be considered
by the GEX Program Office on a case-by-case basis. Out-of-cycle approvals will be the
exception. Program Managers will need to adequately document and justify any
out-of-cycle production map deployments for approval by the GEX Program Manager. The
justification should state why the program cannot deploy maps as part of a scheduled map
deployment as outlined in the table above.
Maps delivered from the GEX IDIQ are deployed to the GEX per the Map
Deployment Schedule.
